Project: Ensuite Makeover
Cost: King Bathroom
Brief: Create a modern ensuite with a black and timber theme carried throughout. The design was created by the client (a fantastic interior designer in her own right), and it was Integriti Bathrooms pleasure to bring it to life.
This ensuite design is a vision in bold minimalist design. With influences from monochrome design trends and Scandinavian influences, this ensuite manages to walk the line between completely on trend and timeless simultaneously.
The original bathroom was very old and rather run down. There were a number of other units within the complex that were being renovated at the time, and so the owner of this home decided to take advantage of the tradesmen available and window of opportunity and upgrade both the ensuite and main bathroom at the same time.
Unfortunately, as is often the case in homes of this age, the bathroom itself had Asbestos in the walls and the ceiling that needed to be removed immediately for the safety of the family. It is important to note here that you should never try and remove anything that you suspect of containing asbestos, always call in the experts for inspection and removal for your own health.
The small space in this ensuite (900 x 2200) meant that balancing good design with functionality was a challenge, with every square centimetre of the bathroom being used as efficiently as possible. This heavily influenced the toilet and vanity decisions, both of which were ideally suited to a smaller room size. By using a sliding door we were able to save door swing space, while a frameless shower and a hidden cisterm toilet also save on space in this room.
The hexagonal floor tile is the major design feature in this room, creating a truly modern looking bathroom. Bold black was used to sit on theme and a dark tile grout sets off the floor perfectly. We have spoken about the difficulties of laying geometric tiles before, and particularly when dealing with a small format tile like this, any variations or incorrect spacing is immediately visible, ruining the overall look in the floor. Our extensive experience in this area means that while a floor like this is a challenge, it is absolutely not a deal breaker for Integriti Bathrooms.
Matte black accessories hit another of the top design trends for 2016 while again tying into the timeless black and white monochrome theme of this bathroom. The addition of timber accessories and accents brings a bit of warmth into the room, preventing the space from becoming too cold and uninviting. The small wood elements really tie the room together, making for a very chic ensuite to utilise every day.
This bathroom is both timeless in its design and bold in its execution. It is a great example of how you can use bold colour to create a very modern space without compromising on functionality and efficiency.
